No, if you failed your tape, you will get flagged for failing the height and weight standards (KA code flag onthe ERB) if you failed one of the events ont he PT test you get a JA code flag on the ERB...AA is Adverse Action, just to let you know.

Well, I know one thing, it wouldn't make it very far for the guy who is losing the weight but not the inches. AR 600-9 clearly states that progress is defined as losing 3-5 lbs per month, not going down on the percentage. We had quite a few that took close to 4 or 5 months just losing weight before it made a difference in their actual tape results. Just double check that he's doing it right, (not starving and just losing muscle) because you can't go under the max weight and then get off the program, you have to tape off. And what I've been told from S-1 (I used to be the admin clerk and training clerk for my unit) is that a 1SG can request any demotion, but it better be well supported or else it won't get approved. I almost positive it's BN level, not CO level for demotion.
