I applied for a reclass earlier this year (met the weight standards at the time), had the reclass approved, and got my orders cut. Around the same time I got my orders cut, I was taped and flagged for being over by 3%. Im not making excuses for being overweight. I fully intend to work hard and meet the standard in the next month. However, my command is refusing to sign my DA31 for my PCS leave and travel time. I need this form signed before I proceed with any PCS briefs (finance, JPPSO, etc..).

Is this allowed? I went through AR 600-9 and AR 600-8-2 and could find nothing about refusing leave and/or PCS processing because of a weight flag. Is this at the commanders discretion? I am worried that if my DA31 is not complete until after I pass tape, that I will not have sufficient time before I leave to square everything away. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

I didn't need my leave form when I went to JPPSO or my PCS briefings, all I needed was a copy of my orders. The only leave they have to give you is for travel time to your next duty station which really isn't leave. If anything just go one step higher and talk to your CSM.

A soldier now a days may PCS while flagged. Now come on guy 3% that is alot. Now if you have a medical condition thats understandable. But the height and weight are the easiest army standards to follow next to the PT test.

Whats the difference between a SGT and SGT(P)? Nothing until you sew on your rocker

I disagree. No its not super hard, but some of us fight it more than others. i have laways had a hard time making weight and taping in. I hover from 5-10 pounds over screening weight, but tape in at 2-3% over at times. the reason? i have a 14.5" neck. I have to have a 35-36" stomach to hit the target with that size neck.

Given, I have a little bit of a gut, but I in no way look fat or out of shape. I fight with it, and when PT test time comes or a height weight, i do what is neccesary to get under the weight for it. Usually have 3-4 day notice. I have always hovered around 5-10 over, just my natural body comp. i do PT, maybe not as 110% at times, but do it regularly and eat ok. Not sure why i stay that way.

Honestly, go see your chain of command and find out why your DA 31 is still sitting around. For some levy packets for reclassing it will state that you have to make height/weight and be within your body fat percentage to even go. The 1SG/CDR will have to verify this and sign this. If you have your levy packet all taken care of already than this shouldn't be an issue. If your chain fails you, I advise you to use the open door policy. Simply you are being uninformed on the situation right now and you just need to get answers and find out why they are holding your DA 31. Get the answer and work from there.
