I am actually suprised that have have been getting a quarterly counseling from my rater. I am just not sure if he is doing it correctly. Does it normally look similiar to monthly statements I do for my soldiers??? And how helpful are they towards the NCOER.

No they should not be on a 4856. An NCO's quarterly counseling is done on a da form 2166-8-1. this is called an NCOER counseling support form. It is very helpful to an NCOER because every quarterly counseling that you receive you should be getting bullets for that period. When it is time to write the NCOER you dont have to be thinking back what the NCO has done because it was tracked every quarterly counseling session.

I didn't know there was a new form for DA 2166-8-1. (Mar 2006) Unfortunately I have no clue how to fill this new form out. Does anyone know where a good source of information would be? I have still have been using the Oct 2001 ver.

With all that said... if you are also being counseled monthly on a DA 4856 then your NCO is taking care of you by making sure that you know on a month to month basis your strengths and weaknesses. They won't be doing anything besides helping you see where you are going. As compared to waiting three months and finding out that he thinks your attitude is poor for instance or that you didn't even begin to do a pt plan.

But as stated: DA 2166-8-1 is the form for quarterly counselings.
