I was a Corporal for about 5 Months and was promoted to Sergeant in April. I have yet to recieve an NCOER and i keep being told its cause i havent been and "NCO" long enough. whats the deal? Do Corporals not recieve NCOERs?
Not to be the one to seem like a jerk, but i hate seeing wrong info put out, SSG Prophet you are wrong in regards to a CPL having to be rated.
This is from AR 623-205(Noncommissioned Officer Evaluation Reporting System) :
The rater uses DA Form 2166-8-1, along with a working copy of the NCO-ER, to prepare for, conduct, and record results of performance counseling with the rated NCO. Its use is mandatory for counseling all NCOs, CPL through CSM. The purpose of the checklist is to improve performance counseling by providing structure and discipline to the process
1. Active Army. An NCO’s first report period (see para 3-7) begins on the effective date of promotion to sergeant, reversion to NCO status after serving as a commissioned or warrant officer for 12 months or more, or reentry on active duty after a break in service of 12 months or more, or the date of the ABCMR memorandum that approves reinstatement of a promotion
So a CPL is not required to recieve an NCOER just the Counseling.
If youu want to get rated as a CPL then think about this. What happens when you get and NCOER as a CPL, PCS to a new unit and are a SPC again. It will look like you are missing an NCOER later.

I never, never, ever processed an NCOER for a CPL.
I was once told when I asked if we could do NCOERs on CPLs and was told that you could do one but it wouldnt go higher than Battalion.
Now someone already provided the regulation, so you can see why it wouldnt go higher, it would be a "fake" NCOER...so might as well just stick with counselings.

Wouldnt this be the same if a SGT got an NCOER, PCS to a new unit, got in trouble and was demoted???

The question on the study guide for the NCOER portion states: who can recieve an NCOER? All NCOs. This answer is misleading it should be ... All NCOs (E5 and above).
i have submitted a change to it several times but it remains.
