12 Weeks, 4 days for Basic Combat Training orders?

Hello all, First post.

I enlisted last Friday, 12b MOS, and My BCT orders are for Ft. Leonard Wood.

It lists 12 weeks, 4 days training length. Ship date November 12, Start date November 18th.

This is a total training lenth, including Travel to and reception, of 13 weeks, 3 days.

I'm sure that total BCT time isn't exactly 9 weeks, but this is way over.

My recruiter doesn't know why... And the Sgt at Meps was surprised too.

Anybody got any insight?

Thanks,

Ron

I am a former 12B that attended OSUT (I was split-op back then and that is why I have the Castle in my signature frame) in 1983 and 1984. That time includes the AIT (MOS school) portion.

Since you are prior Navy, you have to attend BCT and AIT into one. That is called OSUT (one station unit training).

Here is a link that I just found that confirmed my response.

TRAINING

Job training for combat engineers requires 14 weeks of One Station Unit Training, which includes Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field with on-the-job instructions.

Some of the skills you’ll learn are:

Basic demolitions
Basic explosive hazards
Constructing wire obstacles
Fixed bridge building
Basic urban operations
Operating heavy equipment

Recruiter and MEPS SGT (if counselor) should have known. Anyway, good luck. Essayons!!
