EOD Time in Grade waiver

I wish to go EOD and I have started the process. I have 7 months too much TIG for the requirements, need to submit a 4187 with some supporting documents for a waiver. Already have some LORs coming, but the people writing them wouldn't mind knowing what they should focus on. The guidance from the EOD recruiters is a little vague. I also have to write a memo on myself on why they should grant me a TIG wiaver. Anybody have any experience, examples, or tips? (Other than talk to EOD guys here, figured that one out on my own Wink

I didnt know that they made you go through all that to get a waiver. I am guessing you are an e5 with over a year TIG. I am EOD but I cant be of much help since I was a e4 when I reclassed. I would just write what I thought I could bring to the job if they gave me a waiver. Good luck.
Do you have any LORs from EOD techs? You need to write in your memo why you are different from everyone else. If you can't write that in a memo, EOD doesn't want you. Brutally honest.

They make the waiver process a pain for a reason. People say they want EOD all the time. Wannabes need to prove they want EOD for more than the bonuses they see listed. Also, rank plays a major part of the leadership structure.
I am not reclassing to EOD for money. If I wanted that, I could just stay in my current MOS. Besides, way to far out from my ETS date. I want EOD because that is the best way for me to protect soldiers. Appreciate your honest advice, both of you. Anybody else have any ideas?
