Going to the board at AIT...

I'm reclassing from 25S to 25B this spring. It is a fairly long school and I'll be in my window for going to the SSG board. If I pass the board, will that affect my orders? I have orders to Korea with a tdy en route to fort Gordon. I want to do command sponsorship, but I want to first know if getting promotable status would change my orders. That's a lot of work to do for that packet just to know it won't happen. We are actually looking forward to going overseas, but don't want to get our hopes up. Thanks in advance.

Just because you are in the window=eligible to go to the board, doesn't mean that your will go. Someone has to recommend you...and if you think that it will happen while in AIT...slight chances. Actually i never heard of anyone going to promotion board while in AIT. But lets say somehow you will get the P status, that should not affect your orders. Just because you'r promotable that doesn't mean that you will get promoted right away...there are a lot of Soldiers waiting on P status for a long time before they get promoted...unless you are sitting on a lot of points...but you should already know all this since you are SGT.
With most MOS changes it states in your orders that you can't get promoted in the process of reclassing. Most slots for those classes are for non promotable E5s and below. I'm not sure how it works once you are actually in school but getting promoted before the class can possibly mess up your orders.

I actually am "sitting on a lot of points". I have my MBA in accounting, that tends to help. I'm not asking your opinion on if I'll pass the board, or if I will get a shot at going to the board. I passed the first one just fine. I'm asking if it will affect my follow on orders to Korea. Thanks for your response though.

Thank you. I will get my orders sometime this week and will look to see if it says whether or not I can promote/ go to the board during reclass. My 1sgt was the one who suggested I go to the board while in school, since it's so long. I guess it isn't that common of a process, but I know that promoting in Korea is really rough, so I'd like to try. When I find out the answers, I'll update for future reference to people who are also curious about this.

I know this is a little late, but i want to apologise if i ofended you; that was not my intention. If you had payed attention to my post, i did responded to your question...your orders are issued before you get your P status, so it shouldn't affect your assigment, unless on your re-class paperwork is specificaly saying that you can't get promoted while in school.

Oh, and just FYI, i don't have an MBA and i still maxed out my civil ed...so you don't have to have an MBA to "sit on a lot of points".

I also apologize if I sounded snarky. I thought you were trying to insinuate that I was trolling or something. I have looked at the numbers for promotion and so far, I have enough. Obviously I won't know the exact points since it changes month to month. I've been to my levy brief and I've seen a copy of my orders and they still don't say anything about promotion. I guess I'll just see when I get there. Thank you and I'll update once I am at school and get the final word.

Thank you Chief. Hope you are surviving that snow up there, I'm at Stewart now and I swear they close the state at the thought of freezing temps. In Georgia!

That was exactly what i was trying to say on my previous post, there is very small chance that you can go to promotion board while in AIT...but you never know...

Is good that on orders doesn't say anything about promotion (or in the contract, if you signed one), this way, if you do have a chance to go to the board and get promoted while still in school, your PCS orders shouldn't be affected.

I guess it won't hurt to ask you PLT Leader if you can go to the board...the worst they can do is say NO. Good luck.
Just thought I would update that I am here at school and I was told today that I can go to the promotion board here as an MOS-T. We have already done the command sponsorship for Korea, so I hope it won't mess up my orders, but I have also heard it's hard to promote over there. So not sure if I will peruse the board here or overseas. Anyway, just thought I would update and answer anyone who was curious. You can go to the board while in AIT for reclassing.
I am glad it worked out for you...it doesn't happened very often, so congrats.

I am not sure what you meant by "it's hard to get promoted over there". Did you meant Korea? If that is the case let me tell you my story. Went to Korea as non-promotable SPC and within 4 months i got pinned SGT, so is not harder to get promoted there than anywhere else. Once you have the P status, all you need is points...those have nothing to do with where you are, is up to you to work on getting hte points...wait, didn't you said you are sitting on a lot of points? Then what you are worry about?!
