Has anyone here ever requested for a deceased family member's awards to be sent from the government? I was talking to a veteran the other day who said that if I wrote a letter to my congressman, it would be forwarded up through the governement and I would receive a package w/the medals and awards. Has anyone ever actually done this and could tell me how to write a proper request? My grandfather was a truck driver in World War II, but I didn't really get to know that much about his military service until years after he died. My mom sent me his seperation papers from Fort Dix, and I learned he left as a Tech-5, served in Europe and was awarded a Bronze Star. I had no idea; it's not like those things were just given away, you know? Anyhow, any help on this would be appreciated.

Wow, no insights whatsoever? Nobody's tried to do this before? If anyone has has any suggestion at all, I'd really appreciate it. My grandfather had Parkinson's (and probably PTSD, too) for most of the time I knew him, so to have this part of him I never got the chance to talk w/him about would mean a whole lot to me.
