I enlisted in the National Guard with a 6 year contract. I came into the Guard with a bachelor's degree and have SLRP in my contract. I have not received SLRP payments yet (set to receive them in April), but if I do receive SLRP payments, would I be screwing myself out of the post 9/11 GI Bill, which I was planning on using in law school. Currently I am deployed for 12 months, so I would either get 50% or 60% of the post 9/11 GI Bill coverage depending on when the deployment ended. However, would the SLRP cover up my deployment time if I used it now? I called the VA to ask this question and the gentleman said SLRP would not affect my 9/11 benefits, since I enlisted with the SLRP. I just want to clarify because the Post 9/11 bill is worth a lot more than SLRP.
