My name is SPC Vangarde and I am currently serving as an active duty soldier in Afghanistan. I will returning home soon and have been working hard to narrow down my future military options. I have decided after much thought, research and family considerations, to try to join the Virginia National Guard and complete OCS training. My ultimate goal is to become an Infantry Officer. I have a few questions and they are fairly specific. If I have over 90 credits and am otherwise qualified, can I still choose to attend the longer OCS training instead of the Accelerated (8 week) course? What is the actual Rank and pay held while going through the State OCS? How long is the branch training for an Infantry Officer and where is it conducted? Whether I attend regular (state) OCS or the 8 week option, would branch training begin immediately after? Is it fairly easy to be selected to the Infantry branch if I have selected it as a first choice? Does this branch pave the way for officers who wish to go through Rnager School and other relevant courses?
I apologize for the lengthy list of questions... but it is very important to me to consider the asnwers carefully as I will be coming home to a wife and son after a year away. I am not looking to avoid future deployments, but the length and location of training is key.
Thanks to anyone who has read this looking to provide insight!
